Solveig has worked in several hospital and outpatient practice settings where she gained experience with behavioral health programs, mental health services, women’s crisis intervention and drug & alcohol treatment. Solveig uses an in-depth, strength-oriented psychological orientation in combination with cognitive behavioral therapy methods. She sees clients for many different concerns, including relationship and grief issues. Her specialty area is working with people who suffer from anxiety (panic, phobia, obsessive-compulsive disorders and posttraumatic stress) and depression. Solveig also has a focus in helping women and female adolescents. She uses therapeutic approaches with her female clients that pertain specifically to women’s psychological development, growth and multiple roles. She helps her clients overcome weight and body image problems, eating disorders and heal from abuse. In addition, Solveig supports women and their partners to cope with the pain and difficulties of reproductive health problems (e.g. inability to conceive, miscarriage, stillborn baby, pelvic pain, postpartum depression, sexual difficulties, cancer, menopause, PMS). Solveig’s work as a therapist is informed by extensive formal studies in health psychology, mind/body medicine and stress reduction. She received training from Heartwood Holistic Health Institute, the University of Massachusetts Medical Center and the Mind/Body Medical Institute, Harvard Medical School. Solveig has worked for 10 years in a healing art setting as a licensed massage therapist. Her formal studies and work experience provide Solveig with unique qualifications for working with stress-related conditions, chronic pain and other complex somatic complaints. Solveig earned master's degrees from the University of Berlin, Germany and from Antioch New England Graduate School. Her studies in psychology and education included a focus on nonverbal therapy methods, such as expressive arts and movement. She uses writing, movement, play and the visual arts within the therapeutic context, whenever talking seems less helpful and with many of her younger clients. Her professional practice follows the American Mental Health Counselors Association’s Code of Ethics.
Heri works with individuals, couples and families and sees latency age children, adolescents and adults. He has substantial experience in individual and family therapy, with a special expertise in couples counseling. He assists clients with relationship and parenting concerns, blended family problems, lifestyle changes, work and career issues, as well as adjustment to life transitions or other stressful challenges. His counseling approach is strongly influenced by relational, systemic and solution-oriented brief therapy. He believes that many client concerns can be effectively addressed within a few sessions, particularly when personal strengths and resiliency are emphasized. Heri welcomes and integrates all relevant parts of a person’s life into the counseling process, including family and significant others, spiritual beliefs, physical wellness and someone’s unique way of creative expression. He relates to clients in a respectful, collaborative fashion. Heri hopes to establish a comfortable partnership that allows clients to openly look at dilemmas and to explore more productive personal choices. Important ingredients of this partnership in counseling are respect, honesty and a reasonable balance between support and challenge. Heri sees himself as a consultant and facilitator who listens, asks questions, gives feedback, and helps others in their search for new possibilities, relational changes and personal growth. Anna has gained extensive professional experience in a variety of health care settings. She was an outpatient psychotherapist at a community mental health center for a decade. She has facilitated home births as an assistant midwife, and was involved in the hospice field for about 10 years by providing training and support to volunteers and grief counseling to families and individuals. Anna favors a relational strength-oriented approach with an emphasis on generating options, expanding points of view and exploring short and long term solutions to problems. She assists clients with all manners of relationship concerns, with a particular interest in adult transition issues that may manifest in shifting relationships, career , family or need for life review. She offers help with communication issues, parenting problems, emotional problems and spiritual explorations. She helps people work through traumatic experiences and supports people through depression, grief, anxious states, and other stressful situations, such as the challenge of living with chronic illness. She often coaches people to become stronger and more effective advocates for themselves in our changing healthcare and work settings. She endeavors to assist people to discover their inner strengths, or to achieve release from the effects of dependent, abusive or other discouraging situations that can drain life energy and erode self confidence. Her stance is one of appreciative inquiry. Drawing on her nearly lifelong interest in helping people help themselves, she is known for her pragmatic approach and her deep appreciation for the possibility of using difficult situations as opportunities for growth.
